This Week’s Word: Tentative [ten-tuh-tiv] adjective
Tentative means not fully worked out or developed. It can also mean hesitant or uncertain.
For example, a plan or project is tentative if it is still “in the works.” An itinerary or syllabus is tentative if it subject to change.
Likewise, tentative can be used to describe something as unsure or hesitant. A baby’s first steps, for example, could be called tentative.
Sample Sentence:
Her smile was tentative, slow at first, it gradually grew into a toothy grin.
